Chesapeake House Garden

In the summer of 2011 flowers magically appeared in the dirt, and previously weeds only, strip along the Belt Road façade of Chesapeake House. We later learned that a THS member had planted seeds. That first blooms were mowed – twice- by the National Park Service which led to a conversation between THS and the Park Service and, eventually, toward the issuance of a permit from NPS to THS to plant native plants in the area – at least until NPS determines the future of Chesapeake House. The summer display is an unexpected and pleasing surprise to passers-by
