Reno School and Reno City Exhibit at Alice Deal Middle School / Reno School

In 2003, Tenleytown Historical Society first focused on the historic importance of Reno School and Reno City. We believed that the school – then in a state of serious disrepair – should be restored and that it would be the ideal place for an exhibit on the school and the Reno community that was razed in the 1930s and 1940s. Even after THS’s successful application for landmarking in 2009, it took a long time for the City to decide on the building’s future. Fortunately for all, Reno School has been beautifully restored and the exhibit THS hoped for and envisioned has been installed. It was a collaborative process involving DC Public Schools, Deal Middle School principal James Albright, Council Member Mary Cheh, DC Department of General Services and the architects and builder. THS provided the historic content to Keane Design.
