The house was designed by Arthur Heaton one of DC most prolific and versatile architects (he also designed the Western Bus Garage) for David Lawrence, a journalist who founded US News & World Report.  In 1950 the house became the Swedish Ambassador’s residence and remained part of the Swedish diplomatic presence in Washington, DC until earlier this year. 

Nomination of this site to the DC Inventory of Historic Sites was filed by the DC Preservation League and the new owner earlier in the year.  It was added to the DC Inventory of Historic Places by the Historic Preservation Review Board at its December 21, 2023, meeting.
