1903 Streetcar Barn and Powerhouse Washington, D. C.

A concrete, fireproof powerhouse and car barn were built by 1903 on Wisconsin Avenue between Harrison and Jennifer streets.

This powerhouse generated electricity for the car line extensions into Maryland and housed streetcars overnight.

Unlike in Georgetown and Washington City, where underground conductor lines provided power to the streetcars, in Tenleytown, power was provided to the streetcars through overhead wires, strung from electricity poles.
